Mach4 Information: Mach4 is our newest version of CNC motion control software. While the core software is completed, it will take time to complete all of the software plug-ins that allow Mach4 to communicate with specific hardware devices. OEMs and equipment manufacturers that have committed resources to developing their software plug-ins, will be the first to take advantage of Mach4's benefits. If it's a Post Processor written for the Vectric products then you can install it yourself it doesn't need to be supplied as part of the software. I wouldn't expect there would be any great difference from the current Mach3 Post Processors. The software itself might have changed but g-code hasn't. After looking at the site it all seems a bit squishy to me. In several places it states that a 'plugin' is needed for a specific motion controller. It does not state where to go for said plugins.... So, I am sitting here thinking, 'oh great, I buy Mach 4, then I have to go looking for some 'plugins' somewhere.' And exactly where is that? After looking at the site I am not seeing any great overbearing reason that I should go and fork over $200, then start looking around for 'plugins' so that my machine which runs just fine may not run so fine after spending $$$ and time.
Yea, I get it, Mach4 is designed to run on laptops. Newflash, a lot of us have been running on laptops without a parallel port for a long time now. One other thing, licensing it to a computer and having to call them if puter dies is downright stupid. I have Mach 3 on several puters ready to go if the one on the machine fails.
Looks like 'corporate thinking' has arrived in the Mach3 camp. IMPORTANT NOTE: The LICENSE will only work for the Computer for which you supplied the PC ID. Each PC has a unique ID code and the license works in coordination with this code. If you upgrade or exchange your PC, it will be necessary to contact licensing for a replacement. Since I am in 'way back' mode today.... When my company was bought out by a big Japanese company, the bean counters could not believe that I did not have 'protection' on my software. They insisted on it. Then, when the dongles started failing they got the message real quick from the customers. So much for that idea. This is a policy created by someone who does not want any beans to fall through any cracks, not realizing that the problems it will cause in terms of customers getting angry is not worth the few extra beans.
Happy customer = happy supplier. Not to sound to rude you guys need to read a bit more you can get a new licences off you account with artsoft (mach3) its just a regenerate new code to what ever computer you are using you can do a couple per year if need more you just send them email.
